Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins Talk Rock Music, Cal Jam + more

Foo Fighters Woody Show

Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters stopped by The Woody Show to talk about their long careers in music, upcoming Cal Jam festival and whether rock and roll is dead.

Some highlights of the interview include:

On Cal Jam 2018:

Last year was the inaugural year of this annual festival.  This year the festival takes place in San Bernardino on October 6th.

“We wanted to have a big show with all of our friends and a backstage that was more like a barbeque, and it was awesome. So we’re doing it again this year," says Grohl.

On performing:

Hawkins admits it's “still just as scary as it ever was”

“You gotta bring them (the crowd) up every night. The best way to do that is just to do these songs that everyone likes to sing together, and bring them together”

IS ROCK AND ROLL DEAD?

Grohl says no and that there are still so many good rock bands.  He adds that the scene has changed.  He thinks that the hip hop scene took over the glamor of people like Marilyn Manson, and things move in a cycle

Hawkins furthers in looking at his own child: “The only music my son likes is hip hop. The reason he likes it is because they can say whatever they want and it doesn’t matter”

ADVICE FOR PEOPLE PURSUING MUSIC

Dave says write great songs, songs that get into people’s heads, don’t expect anything, and kick ass live!
